Account and Billing Issues

Please provide the following information with your incident report to ensure the fastest possible resolution:

  1. Account Name - If you do not have the account name, please provide as many of the following items as possible
  2. E-mail Address - The contact e-mail address which should appear on the account
  3. Proof of Purchase - The following items are acceptable as proof of purchase:
    • Retail Purchases: CD Key (A scan or digital photo with your Steam account username written on the quick reference card or CD Key sticker below the code may be required - a receipt scan is required for the CD Key Reset Process)
    • Credit Card Purchases: Last four digits of credit card number used, cardholder name, card expiration date
    • PayPal Purchases: Transaction ID from purchase receipt and PayPal e-mail address
  4. Description of the Issue - Please be as brief as possible (examples: "My account was hijacked on July 2nd", "My credit card was declined", "I need to reset my password")

CD Key Scan Examples

Please see the examples below to see how your CD Key image should be sized and noted. Please write your account name - in the examples you will see the account name "support" - or your support incident number (you will need to submit your incident, write your incident number on the CD Key, and then update your case with the scan if you are not sure of your account name).

Technical Issues

  1. Account Name
  2. Description of the Issue
    • Please list any recent changes you have made to your system or game settings and describe whether the issue is related to Steam, a specific game, or several games
    • If you are encountering a specific error message, please include the entire error message in your report
  3. Diagnostic Report - Please run the Steam Diagnostic Tool, right-click on the results page, and save the entire contents of the report as an .HTML file to attach with your report

Create an Incident Report

Click the Ask a Question tab which appears at the top of the Contacting VALVe Billing and Support answer to create your incident report.

Please select the appropriate Product (STEAM for all billing and account-related issues) and Category when submitting your case.

Important Note

You must click the Finish Submitting Question button after being presented with a list of possible solutions if you wish to contact Steam Support. Your incident report has not been submitted until you are presented with a 12-digit reference number.
