Recent Steam Update Issues

Steam Support will not request your Steam account password for any reason, nor will you ever be asked to enter your Steam account password into a website form.

Important Note

All Steam client application updates will require that Steam.exe be added again to your firewall's exceptions list. Please see the Using a Firewall with Steam article for more information if you have not already taken this action.

January 8th, 2007

We have found reports of Steam client crashes, update errors, and connectivity issues caused by the following programs:

Tuneup WinStyler Theme Service - causes Steam Crash: The registry is use by another process, timeout expired - must be disabled
GhostSurf - Causes Steam Problem: Steam fails to start (no error message or update progress window) and continues to run in the background - must be uninstalled
AOLacsd.exe (AOL connection driver) - Steam client update progress stops, update process does not complete - must be uninstalled
Spycatcher Express - Steam client update progress stops, update process does not complete - must be uninstalled
