Moving from WON to Steam:da

Steam er Valves nye bredbånds platform, der fungerer som software levering og indholds-styring.

Hvis du indtil nu har spillet via WON, er du nødt til at installere Steam-versionen af spillet for at fortsætte med at spille.

Med Steam bliver du i stand til at:

• Købe Valve spil over internettet, og komme i gang med at spille få minutter efter købet er bekræftet.
• Få adgang til alle dine spil (købt eller registreret gennem Steam) fra en hvilken som helst computer.
• Slippe for at spekulere om spillet har de seneste opdateringe og rettelser, det hele sker automatisk.
• Chatte med dine venner, endda mens du spiller.
• Gennemse og forbinde til spil på internettet.
• Se hvor og hvornår dine venner spiller på internettet, og spille med eller mod dem der.

Bemærkning: Nogle brugere har fortalt at downloaden en somme tider stopper, før den er færdig. Bliv ved med at forsøge indtil den er helt færdig.

Gem SteamInstall.exe i et midlertidigt bibliotek, eksempelvis "C:\SteamInstall"

Vær sikker på at du har lukket programmer der benytter internettet, som for eksempel Kazaa, Internet Explorer, email, og messenger-programmer.

Kør så SteamInstall.exe filen, følg instruktionerne, og brug standard-biblioteket hvis du har mulighed for det.

Du bliver nødt til at oprette en ny Steam-konto og vær sikker på at du kan huske konto-navnet, kodeordet og dit "Secret Question/Answer". Din "Contact-email" er også meget vigtig, vær sikker på det er en brugbar email-adresse og skifter du email-adresse så husk at opdatere denne i din Steam-konto.

Når du registrerer din CD-kode til denne konto, vil du ikke længere være i stand til at registrere den CD-kode til en anden konto. Konto-navne kan ikke ændres og CD-koder kan ikke ikke overføres.

Hvis du bruger en firewall er du nødt til at give SteamInstall.exe, Steam.exe og HL.exe, rettigheder til ubegrænset at benytte alle UDP- og TCP-porte, hvis firewallen spørger. Hvis Steam "går ned", er det sandsynligvis fordi din firewall blokerer den, og du bliver nødt til at opdatere tilladelserne igen.

Steam vil ikke bede om din CD-kode før du har valgt, "Register a product I already own" under "Browse Games" delen af Steam-menuen.

Når du har indtastet CD-koden, vil Steam hente alt der er nødvendigt for at spille spillet.

Før din download sættes i gang, vær sikker på at dine indstillinger for hastighedsforbindelsen er sat korrekt. Du kan ændre denne under "Settings" i Steam.

Selv om det er muligt at starte, spillet før det er helt hentet ned, er det bedst at vente til 100% af spillet er hentet, før du går i gang. Du kan se hvor meget af din download der er hentet, ved at finde spillet under "My games"-fanen.

Har du mange "custom-maps" fra din gamle WON installation, og vil du gerne beholde dem er du nødt til selv at kopiere dem til din nye Steam-installation. For at gøre dette kopier de passende mapper fra (standard mapperne i dette tilfælde):

Steam is Valve's new broadband platform for direct software delivery and content management.

If you've been playing on WON up until now, you need to install the new Steam version of your game to continue playing.

With Steam you'll be able to:

• Buy Valve games via the Internet, and start playing within minutes of confirming your purchase.
• Access your games from any PC.
• Stop worrying about product updates and patches--they're all handled automatically!
• Instant-message your friends, even while playing games.
• Browse and connect to game servers.
• See when your friends are playing, and join their games.

You can install Steam now using the Steam Installer (Approx. 700 KB): SteamInstall.exe

Note: Some users have reported that the download occasionally stops before it's complete. Keep trying until you get the complete installer.

Place the installer in a temporary directory, such as C:\SteamInstall.

Make sure that you've exited out of any Internet programs, such as Kazaa, Internet Explorer, email, and instant messaging programs.

Then double-click on the Steaminstall.exe file. Follow all the instructions and use the default installation path if you can.

You'll have to create a new Steam Account, be sure to use a memorable Account name and password and Secret Question/Answer. Your contact email is also VERY IMPORTANT, make sure it's a good email address and if you change emails addresses later be sure to update the contact email for your Steam Account.

Once you register your CDKey to this account, you won't be able to register that CDKey to any other account. Account names can't be changed and CDKeys can't be transferred.

If you're using a firewall, you'll need to give Steaminstall.exe, Steam.exe, and HL.exe permission for all ports and for TCP & UDP if the firewall asks. If Steam hangs, your firewall is probably blocking access and you may have to update the permissions again.

Steam will not ask you for your CDKey until you select the option "Register a product I already own" in the "Browse Games" portion of the Steam menu.

Once you've entered your CDKey, Steam will download all the necessary content for the game.

Before the download starts, please make sure that your Internet connection rate for Steam is properly configured. You can adjust this rate in the Steam settings dialog.

Although it's possible to start playing before the download is completed, it's best to wait for 100% of the game to be downloaded before you attempt to play. You can check on the download progress in the Steam Monitor and in the game properties; right-click on the game in your games list and select "Properties" from the popup menu.

If you have a lot of custom maps from your old WON installation, you'll want to transfer them over to your new Steam install. To do this, copy the appropriate folders from (typically):

C:\Sierra\CounterStrike

directory to the new location, typically:

C:\program files\Steam\Steamapps\<your account>\Counter-Strike\Cstrike.

WARNING: Do not copy over any Standard maps and other Stock content! If you do, you will likely have disconnects for "map differs from server" and "bad file consistency" problems.
