1. Please insert Disc 1 into your CD/DVD-ROM drive. You will be prompted by an auto-run menu with several options. Please select the Install option.
2. The Installation Wizard will now begin. You will be required to read the License Agreement in full before you can continue. Once you have scrolled to the bottom of the agreement to indicate that you have read it, you will be able to select I agree and then Next to continue installation.
3. Next you will be presented with the option to install the game to a specific location on your hard drive. We recommend that you install the game to the default location ( C:\Program Files\Valve\Steam ). If you would like to install the game to a different location, you may do so at this time.
4. The installation wizard will then check your version of DirectX. If it is not up to date, the installation wizard can install an update for you. After this step, the game files will be copied to your hard drive.
5. When the installation wizard is done copying the files necessary for the game installation, it will then install Steam. Once Steam is installed, it will prompt you to log in to Steam. Please select Continue and create a new Steam account or enter your existing Steam account information at the log in prompt.
6. Once you have logged in, Steam will prompt you to activate your game. First, you must fully read the Steam Subscriber Agreement. Once you have read the entire agreement, select I agree after scrolling through the agreement to continue.
7. The next menu is the product activation wizard. You will need to enter your 25-character product key at this time. This product key will be found in your game's disc case or on the quick reference card that came with the game you purchased. Older versions of Half-Life 2 and other Valve games may have paper CD sleeves (check the back of the sleeves for the product key).
8. Steam will check for any updates for your game once you have successfully activated your subscription. Please allow Steam to update your game once the installation has finished.
The update process may take several minutes or hours, depending on the amount of updates and your internet connection speed.
9. After Steam has fully updated your game(s) you will be ready to play. Double click the title of the game you would like to start in the My Games tab or right click on the title and select Launch game to begin.
That's it. Enjoy your new game!
