Steam Support will not request your Steam account password for any reason, nor will you ever be asked to enter your Steam account password into a website form.

This error is generated when a Friend's username contains too many characters.

To correct this issue, please update your Steam Friends username to contain fewer characters and avoid non-alphanumeric characters.

Change your Friends username

From the main Steam window click the Friends icon located on the bottom of the window to bring up your Friends list
Select Options
Select Edit Profile
Under the Profile tab in the section marked Name and enter a username with fewer characters
Try connecting again
