Disabling Sound Downloads for Source Games

Steam Support will not request your Steam account password for any reason, nor will you ever be asked to enter your Steam account password into a website form.

Use the Download Filter Command

  1. Open the game Console
  2. Enter cl_downloadfilter nosounds


Create an autoexec.cfg Script

  1. Open Notepad (Start > Programs > Accessories > Notepad)
  2. Enter cl_downloadfilter nosounds the new Notepad file
  3. Select Save As from the File menu
  4. Select All Files from the File type
  5. Enter the filename autoexec.cfg
  6. Save this file to your /cfg/ folder under the game folder
    Example: C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\<username>\counter-strike source\cstrike\cfg\autoexec.cfg
