Steam Support will not request your Steam account password for any reason, nor will you ever be asked to enter your Steam account password into a website form.

The term background application or background process refers to any process which runs (often automatically) with a relatively low priority, requires little or no input, and generates a minimum of output.

Over time background processes can require additional memory and/or network bandwidth which can negatively affect game performance.
