Please observe the following process to reset a lost Steam account password:

• From the Steam Login dialog, click the Retrieve a lost account... button.

If you do not know your Steam Account name:

1. Select the I don't know my account name. option and click Next.
2. Select an item of information, preferably the account's contact email address.
3. Enter the contact email address on record with Steam to have Steam Support email your Steam Account name to this address.
4. Repeat the initial step in this process and, upon receiving the email message containing your Account name, select the "I know my account name" option. Or, if you didn't receive this email message, Contact Steam Support.

If you know your Steam Account name:

1. Select the I know my account name. option and click Next.
2. Enter your account name in the Account name field and click Next.
3. Check the contact email address for your Steam account for an email containing your Verification Code and Secret Question. If you didn't receive this email message, Contact Steam Support.
4. Enter your verification code and the answer to your secret question in the Verification code and Secret answer fields respectively, then click Next.
5. Steam will next require you to select a new password. Enter your new password twice to confirm the change, then click the Next button to reset your password.

Please observe the following process to update your password or secret question after logging in to your Steam account:

Changing your Steam Account password and secret question

To change your Steam Account password or secret question if your email address has been verified with Steam:

1. Right-click on the Steam icon in the System Tray and select Settings or press the Settings button in Steam's File menu.
2. Click the Change password or secret question... button.
3. Select either:
   • I want to change my password, or
   • I want to change my secret question.
     
     and click Next.
4. Enter your Steam Account password and click Next.
5. Check your email and retrieve the confirmation code sent to you by Steam Support. If you didn't receive this email message, Contact Steam Support.
6. Return to Steam and enter this code, then
   • To change your password, enter your new password twice.
   • To change your secret question, select a question from the list and enter your answer in the bottom text box.
     Note: Answers to secret questions are case-sensitive and must be spelled exactly as you enter it here.
     
     and click Next.
7. View the confirmation page and make sure all of the details are correct.

To change your Steam Account password or secret question if your email address has not yet been verified with Steam:

1. Right-click on the Steam icon in the System Tray and select Settings or press the Settings button in Steam's File menu.
2. Click the Change password or secret question... button.
3. Select either:
   • I want to change my password, or
   • I want to change my secret question.
     
     and click the Next button.
4. Enter your old password to authorize the change, then:
   • To change your password, enter your new password twice.
   • To change your secret question, select a question from the list and enter your answer in the bottom text box.
     Note: Answers to secret questions are case-sensitive and must be spelled exactly as you enter it here.
     

     and click Next.

5. View the confirmation page and make sure all of the details are correct.

How can I tell whether my email address has been verified with Steam?

If your email address has been verified with Steam, it will be indicated as Verified in your Steam Account settings.
