Systeem bestand controle
Sommige gebruikers hebben gerapporteerd dat dit probleem kan opgelost worden door een volledige controle van uw Windows systeem bestanden uit te voeren - het is aan te raden dat u de Systeem Bestands Controle draait om er zeker van te zijn dat deze bestanden intact zijn:
- Ga naar de Start knop

- Typ cmd en klik OK om de commando console te openen
- Typ sfc /scannow om uw systeem bestanden te controleren

Schakel systeem modificatie uit
- Zorg ervoor dat u uw systeem niet overclockt
- Schakel refresh rate-forcing programma's uit en/of deinstalleer ze
- Gelieve tijdelijk video en audio codecs van derden te deinstalleren (de K-Lite pack is gekend om dit probleem te veroorzaken)
- Als u een ATI grafische kaart heeft, gelieve ATI-ACE, ATI-SMART, Trueform en Catalyst AI te deinstalleren, schakel ook VPU Recover uit als dat u problemen geeft
Probleemoplossende stappen
- Page file: Probeer om uw systeems paging file uit te schakelen (u zult moeten heropstarten) en uw page file voor 1x of 2x de hoeveelheid van het gebruikte RAM te zetten. Deze instelling kan gevonden worden onder Configuratiescherm > Systeem > Geavanceerd > Prestaties > Geavanceerd > Virtueel Geheugen
- Als u een andere taal dan Engels gebruikt voor uw besturingssysteem zorg er dan voor dat u de console knop niet instelt met een teken dat Steam niet zal herkennen (§ is bijvoorbeeld niet geldig)
- Schakel alle IM programma's uit en alt-tab niet naar uw bureaublad, het spel wisselen kan dit probleem misschien afzetten.
- Voeg deze CVAR toe in uw HL2 opstart eigenschappen om het spel te testen in windowed modus:
-window +mat_forcehardwaresync 0
- Als u twee of meer geheugen modules gebruikt, probeer dan met maar één module te draaien en kijk of u nog steeds dit probleem heeft. Het verminderen van geheugen modules zal effectief uw memory timing (geheugen tijdopname) versnellen. Als het spel ok werkt met één module maar niet met twee dan heeft u een moederbord memory timing probleem en moet u enkele veranderingen doorvoeren, LEES UW MOEDERBORD HANDLEIDING.
- Verzacht de memory timing, sommige moederborden hebben "conservatieve" timing of u kan CAS manueel verhogen en prefetch verhogen. Als CAS is ingesteld op 2.0 verhoog het dan naar 2.5. Als Prefetch op 6 is ingesteld, verhoog het naar 7 of hoger (tot en met 11).
- Verhoog het memory core voltage een beetje als uw moederbord deze optie ondersteund, raadpleeg uw moederbord handleiding. Het voltage verhogen zal het geheugen effectief versnellen, maar zal ook de hitte verhogen.
- Zorg dat de Case Latency in uw BIOS overeenkomt met de CAS die uw RAM ondersteunt - gelieve het Wikipedia artikel dat hieronder gelinkt is te lezen voor gedetaileerde technische informatie om te werken met RAM:

Update your System

Disable System Modifications
- Ensure that you are not overclocking your system
- Disable and/or uninstall any refresh rate-forcing programs

Advanced Troubleshooting Steps
Please reboot and test after completing each of these steps to determine whether the issue has been resolved.
- Add this launch option in your game's launch properties to test the game in windowed mode:

- Page file: Try turning off your system paging file (you have to reboot) and setting your page file for 1x or 2x the amount of RAM being used. This setting can be found under Control Panel > System > Advanced > Performance > Advanced > Virtual Memory
- If you have an language other than English set for your Operating System, make sure that you are not setting the console key to an character which Steam will not recognize (§ for example is not valid)
- Disable all IM programs and do not alt-tab to your desktop, swapping the game out may trigger this problem.
- If you are using two or more memory modules, try running with only one module and see if you still have this problem. Reducing the number of modules will effectively speed up your memory timing. If the game runs ok with one module but not two, then you have a motherboard timing problem and you will need to make some changes, READ YOUR MOTHERBOARD MANUAL.
- Relax the memory timing some motherboards have "conservative" timing or you can manually increase CAS and increase prefetch. If CAS is set to 2.0 increase it to 2.5. If Prefetch is set to 6, increase it to 7 or higher (up to 11).
- Slightly increase the memory core voltage if your motherboard supports this option, consult your motherboard manual. Raising the voltage will effectively speed up the memory, but will also increase the heat.
- Make sure the Case Latency in your BIOS corresponds with the CAS rating which your RAM supports - please see the dynamic random access memory Wikipedia article for detailed technical information on working with RAM.
