If you're experiencing problems with your microphone, the first thing to check is if your microphone is enabled for the game and the settings are correct. You can also check to see if you can hear your mic is working by selecting the "Test Microphone" option on the panel (expect echos if you don't have earphones!) The next step is to see if your mic is working while in-game. While connected to a server, bring up the console by hitting the tilde key ("~"), and then type "voice_loopback 1" in the console (disable by entering "voice_loopback 0"). If your microphone is working properly, you should now be able to hear your own voice (again, expect echos if you don't have earphones!) There is also a launch option command-line parameter in Steam that can clear up some microphone problems:
Please also find more detailed information in this knowledgebase article HL Microphone FAQ with information on how your connection settings can affect how well your microphone works while in-game as well as how to adjust your Server voice options. One last thing to keep in mind is that the Server can control if your mic is allowed to work at all, as well as what codec and sound quality is used. If you have everything configured properly and your mic still doesn't seem to work in-game, always try several different servers to make sure it isn't just a Server issue. Note: Your microphone will not work while you are in Spectator mode. You may also try running a copy of the original HL voice_tweak.exe program to see if it corrects the issue. |
