Steam and Game Problem: Unable to view My media content and game trailers

Steam media files are played through Windows Media Player. Please see the instructions below for resolving Windows Media Player issues which may interfere with video display for game intros, trailers, and My media content:

Windows Media Player 9 Users

Issue: Colors in media files display incorrectly in neon green and red.

Solution: Disable video mixing renderer.

Disable Video Mixing Renderer

  1. Open Media Player and go to Tools in the top menu bar and select Options
  2. Select Advanced
  3. Go to Video Acceleration Settings
  4. Uncheck the Use video mixing renderer option
  5. Save your settings and exit Windows Media Player 9


Windows Media Player 10 Users

Issue: Colors in media files display incorrectly in neon green and red.

Solution: This issue can be resolved by switching from User overlays to Use high quality mode.

Switch to Use High Quality mode

  1. Open Media Player and go to Tools in the top menu bar and select Options
  2. Select the Performance tab
  3. Under the Use video mixing renderer option check the Use high quality mode option
  4. Save your settings and exit Windows Media Player 10
